Canon May Soon Launch a Unique New Zoom Lens
Canon, which is prolific with the Patents it files on new lenses and camera parts, filed one for what could be a groundbreaking new lens.
Recent Canon patent applications have caused a stir in the world of camera patents. The application is for an ultra wide-angle lens which could make a big impact on the optics industry.
Canon’s current selection of ultra-wide lenses is impressive. It’s not surprising that Canon has always been a leader in the creation of new cameras and optics.
A recently discovered Canon patent application for an f/2 14-20mm zoom lens pushes the boundaries of what is possible for this type of glass.
This lens, which has an f/2 opening, is known as the Canon RF14-20mm F2.0 according to the patent filing and may deliver outstanding performance due to its ultra-wide zoom range.
This concept lens would be able to deliver a very good performance in low light and provide stunning visuals, even with a shallow depth of field.
The lens is ideal for landscape, astrophotography, and perhaps even architectural photos.
There are other lenses with similar specs on the market, including Canon’s RF 20-70mm F/2 L USM Zoom lens and Sigma 14mm f/1.8 For Canon Cameras. However, this latter model has a focal length of f/1.8 instead of zoom.
This new Canon patent, however, offers a combination that is quite impressive, with its f/2 lens aperture and zoom lens of this focal range.
