Review of the Westcott FJ80SE Speedlight
Not sure what brand to choose for your first speedlight? This is where I was when i bought this Westcott FJ80se speedlight for Sony cameras.
I had heard much about the Godox V1 (but not about Westcott), but I thought I would give this Westcott entry-level speedlite a go, since it was about the same price and was a little more powerful. It also came with a few additional perks.
It’s important to note that I am a semi-pro and have primarily worked with natural lighting. I’ve used strobes in the studio, but speedlights were new to me.
I have a good understanding of how to direct and sculpt light, but I tend to avoid using on-camera lighting.
When I began looking at speedlights I was primarily looking for an off-camera portable flash that I could use both for portraiture and for product photography.
My review will be based on this angle. I still think that it is relevant to event photographers.
This review is for anyone who wants to buy their first speedlight but hasn’t used Westcott (or Westcott generally) before.
