Choosing the Right Tripod Screw Size for Your Camera
Both professional and amateur photographers understand the importance of a tripod.
Did you know there are various tripod screw sizes available?
This guide will tell you everything you need to find out about the tripod screw size of your camera.
I will also tell you how to deal with equipment that has different screw sizes. Which accessories are likely to have either one or the other? And much more.
This guide is useful whether you have a tripod for travel or a tripod with heavy duty.
Let’s get started!
You might have noticed there are many different types of tripods that fit your camera or accessories.
The majority of tripod manufacturers use the UNC thread standard, which is imperial instead of metric. The UNC standard also uses coarse thread, which is indicated by C.
It is not possible to use screws that have a metric screw thread, as the two systems are incompatible. You should also consider that some manufacturers use custom sizes. This means you can only use accessories and tripods from the same manufacturer.
Let’s go back to our original question. What is the standard tripod screw size?
Two standard sizes of tripod screws are available. Usually 1/4-20 UNC but some tripods use 3/8-16 UNC.
These two sizes are worth examining in greater detail.
