Long-Awaited Firmware Update Now Available for Sony A1 and A9 III Cameras
The release of firmware for Sony’s alpha cameras was staggered after announced it last month.
The company first released firmware for its a7SIII and a7IV edition cameras, but said that it would not be available until the end of April for the a1 or a9III models.
Both models are now updated.
The a1 firmware release was delayed due to an internal Sony connectivity issue, while the a9III firmware release was deliberate. You can download the firmware for free from the Sony site.
The a1 mirrorless camera, a flagship model from Sony, has benefited from the latest firmware update. It fixes issues that the previous firmware upgrade 2.0 had caused.
Sony has now released v2.01, which fixes the problems that 2.0 caused in the Sony A1.
Sony a1 owners can now enjoy the C2PA tools in their cameras with firmware version 2.01.
The idea may not be to everyone’s taste, but if it is important to your work or for the submission of photos to certain media websites, then the seeds of C2PA will now be available in the a1. For now, only select users are able to access the full C2PA workflow.
Professional photographers will also find new useful features added to the a1 by firmware 2.01.
Included in these features are the ability to copy files between memory card and automate FTP settings.
The v2.01 update will allow users to save the lens model to MP4 recordings. Additionally, the camera can now store up to 9,999 photos in a folder rather than 4,000.
The Sony a1 firmware version 2.01 also offers improved image stabilization, flash performance, AF assistance, and support for UVC 4K/30p.
The firmware update 2.01 of the Sony a1 camera is robust, and it’s worth downloading to get the best performance out of this high-performance digital camera.
The Sony website for each of these updates provides a complete list of performance and workflow improvements.
The firmware update for Sony a9III is called V 2.0. It’s the first major firmware upgrade that the camera has seen since its release in early 2024.
The a9III is Sony’s top full-frame mirrorless camera and the first global shutter.
The mirrorless beast is capable of shooting up to 120fps. It was launched with a continuous shooting speed of 1/16, 000s. With firmware version 2.0, the camera can now shoot continuously at 1/80,000.
The new firmware allows users to unlock the shooting speed and specifications they need.
The a9 III firmware 2.0 has the same C2PA and workflow tools mentioned above as the firmware 2.01 for the a1.
