PicsArt Introduces AI-Powered “Smart Background” Tool for Product Photography
Picsart’s “Smart Background” image editing tool is aimed at product photographers looking to streamline their workflow.

In a recent blog post the company stated that this new tool focuses on product photography, not only by suggesting suitable background scenes, but also by generating them in a realistic manner.
Smart Background allows Picsart users to add photorealistic settings and scenes to their product images. Picsart also adds the ability to generate drop shadows when products are about to hit a surface, along with “other context-aware elements.”
The user can then edit the image based on his or her needs, and add all kinds of custom elements to their composition.
No equipment is required. The company claims that “any simple product shot can be transformed into beautiful campaign imagery for use on popular seller platforms like Etsy Depop TikTok Instagram Amazon and more.
Picsart has never before released a tool designed specifically for product photography. However, the company has added more than 20 tools and features to its marketing graphics suite since last year.
Picsart users could describe a background manually and it would be rendered by AI. This feature is still available, but the “Smart Background” goes one step further and automatically generates visuals.
Picsart stated in a further comment about Smart Background that it “extends Picsart’s commitment to provide comprehensive, cutting edge tools for emerging creators and prosumers as well as solopreneurs, marketers, and online sellers.”
The company says that it wants to give users of all types the ability to create high-quality visuals as required from just a single photo.
